Inmate #general

Jim Gutterman

Imagine those in the know likely already recognize this one, but for those like me
who didn't...Looking up my mggm in 1940 census, knowing that she had been widowed
since the prior census. Found her indexed by ancestry, but listed as "inmate"
Obviously, somewhat taken aback, seemed quite unlikely and nobody in family had
mentioned, not that they would. Anyway, in looking at the actual census page,
seemed like a lot of the other inmates were also in their 70s and80s.On closer
inspection, she was in some sort of either nursing home or Jewish residency for the
elderly. Kind of antiquated use of term, but mentioning it just to make people aware.
