Re: Bendery Cemetery project (Bessarabia) #general

Dear JewishGeners,

I want to let you all know on a progress of this project.
Bendery was one of the major Jewish towns with more than 10,000 Jews living
at the beginning of 20 century.

The whole cemetery registry will have about 5,000 records with almost
all tombstones will be photographed.

As of now about half of the records, 2654, with photos - 2364 are uploaded
to JewishGen JOWBR and will be available online with the next JOWBR
upload.

All records >from the Burial registry we obtained are already
translated/transliterated.

I want to thank everybody in our dedicated team who did a great job to
translate records >from Russian and Hebrew into English:
Ala Gamulka, Janet Furba, Sasha Berkovich, Carol Scolnik, Claire Stuart,
Paola Khalili.

I also want to thank many people at ViewMate who helped to understand
several Hebrew inscriptions.

The remaining part of the project will be ready in the spring of this
year.

I am asking our members to donate for the project (Bendery Cemetery
project) that we could pay for the photographs taken.

Without your help we cannot finish the project and we may not be able to
do more such projects in the future.

All the best,
