[USA] Correction--the California Bill That Amends the Public Records Act is AB 76 That Goes to Governor Brown #general
Jan Meisels Allen
Yesterday I submitted a post to this listserve about CA AB 71 --however we
learned today that as both the Senate and Assembly passed identical bills it was Assembly Bill 76 that was enrolled ( was sent to Governor Brown for signature) not the Senate version. It is with apologies for submitting the information we were given that turned out to be erroneous. AB 76 contains the same provisions that I wrote about previously under SB 71. The bill may be read at: http://tinyurl.com/l88b97w Original url: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/13-14/bill/asm/ab_0051-0100/ab_76_bill_2013061 4_enrolled.pdf The bill amends the California Public Records Act to make complying with requests for records voluntary on the part of the local government agency. The bill without any public hearings or input passed both houses of the legislature over the weekend. You might find of interest this article from the San Francisco Chronicle which gives some background to the bill-to save the state money and not have to pay the local agency for producing the records: See: http://tinyurl.com/n2vwouz Original url: http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Bill-would-let-Calif-cities-decide-on-ope n-records-4605711.php To find out what you may do about this bill you need to go to the IAJGS Records Access Alert and look at the archives You must be a registered subscriber to access the archives.
