[USA] CA AB 76 #general

Jan Meisels Allen

Earlier I sent you the news that Assembly Speaker Perez decided to have SB 71 the
companion bill to AB 76 introduced without the provision that would amend the
California Public Records Act and that was published in the Sacramento Bee late
today To read about this go to: http://tinyurl.com/mrxg3fd

We have since been advised that the Senate is not willing to change the bill and
therefore we are back to where we were with concerns about what happens to
accessing records >from local government agencies. A large "coalition"-the
California Newspaper Publishers Association, organized labor, Common Cause, others
and of course the genealogical community have been working to address this concern.
This may not have a final resolution for a few days yet. IAJGS had sent a letter
to Governor Brown with our concerns as did the Records Preservation and Access
Committee (RPAC) of which IAJGS is a sponsoring member along with FGS and NGS with
other genealogical organizations as participating members.
