Re: Sephardi surname OLIVIA #general

Hi, David

Yes, it is a Sephardic surname, listed in all major resources for
Sephardic genealogy and in some variations of spelling. OLIVO,
OLIVIA, OLIVAS, OLIVOS, etc. The name is found in many Sephardic
communities, what website did you look at?

The best way to determine a Sephardic connection is via DNA testing
with and to join the IberianAshkenaz DNA Project,
co-administered by Judy Simon and myself.

It is possible. What is the connection genealogically? That will
determine which test or tests might be recommended.

Subject: Sephardi surname OLIVIA

I don't know if any of you have ever tried this, but my wife and I had
tried simply googling the last names in our families. One of the names
we had been looking for was OLIVIA. This website I had looked at was
very fascinating, if true. It indecated the Olivia's were Sephardic in
origin, with the name coming >from the fruit olive, as they were the
original, Israeli olive cultivators. It may be true, but my question
is, how to find a verifiabe connection after so many brick walls?
Where else to look?
