Date: Sunday, March 9, 2014 Time: 1:30 PM Place: Main Line Reform Temple-Beth Elohim , 410 Montgomery Avenue in Wynnewood, PA 19096 Speaker: Katka Reszke, is a writer, documentary film maker, photographer and researcher in Jewish history, culture, and identity. She is the author of the book which is the subject of her talk. Topic: 'Return of the Jew: Discovering Jewish Roots and the Revival of Jewish Life in Contemporary Poland' A new, 'unexpected' generation of Jews made an appearance in Poland following the fall of the communist regime. Once home to the greatest Jewish community in the world and then site of the biggest tragedy in Jewish history, today Poland is experiencing what some have called a 'renaissance of Jewish culture'. Simultaneously, more and more Poles are discovering their Jewish roots and beginning to seek forms of Jewish affiliation. Drawing >from personal experience and >from her research, Katka Reszke discusses some of the complexities involved in discovering Jewish roots in today's Poland and of being or perhaps becoming Jewish in unique and compelling circumstances. Epstein, Supervising Archivist and Head of Reference Services, New Jersey State Archives. Mrs. Epstein will give a PowerPoint presentation, discussing the various records held by the New Jersey State Archives useful for genealogical research, using "Jewish" examples. She will cover, but not be limited to State Vital Records, Wills, Naturalization Records, Deeds, Census Records, and Military Records.
