Baron #general

It may also be of interest that this was the surname of the Hassidic
dynasty of Radoszyce (Radoshitz) starting with Issachar Ber BARON.

On the other suggestions, it was not uncommon for some of the "BAR-"
(i.e., Ben Rabbi or Reb) acronym surnames to correspond to real
words, particularly ones that were also used as surnames amongst
non-Jews. One such name in my family was BARTAK. So, though BARON corresponds
to a real secular word and name, it could also be a Jewish-only acronym name.

Dear Andrew:
There are Jews named KAISER, KOENIG (king), FUERST (prince), GRAF
(count) and HERZOG (duke), so why not BARON?
