Dorothy BROWN married Jacob S. FREEDMAN in about 1909, possibly in Philadelphia.
They had two children: Marie, born about 1915 in Pennsylvania and William, born
about 1921 in New York. In the 1925 New York State census Dorothy FRIEDMAN, widow,
is listed as living on Union Street in Brooklyn with her children, Marie, 10 and
William, 4. In 1941 Dorothy remarried, to Harry TURTELTAUB.
In 1937 in Brooklyn Marie FREEDMAN, 22, married Jacob BERNSTEIN, 28, a retail
grocer. The 1940 census shows Jack BERNSTEIN, his wife Marion (born in
Pennsylvania), and a one-year-old son, Edward, living in Brooklyn at 424 Albany
Ave. Jack is listed as a salesman of wholesale meat.
I have Dorothy's birth record >from Wyszkow, Poland in 1891 and her parents'
marriage record >from 1879. She was born Dvoira Gisya, daughter of Lejzor Leib
BRANSZCZYK (it's easy to see why this would become BROWN in the U.S.) and Sura
Rifka nee BOLKER. The family immigrated to the U.S. after the baby's birth in 1891,
and I have found a number of records for them as Louis, Sarah, and Dora/Dorothy
BROWN. Louis and Sarah are both buried in the Chevra Annshe Wishkow section of
Mount Judah Cemetery, Ridgewood, Queens.
Sarah was a sister of my great-grandfather Joseph BOLKER. I would love to regain
contact with any cousins >from this "lost" branch of the family. Thanks for any
help you can provide.
