Immigration to the US from Eastern Europe #general

Anne Kenison

I recently posted a query about how people leaving Romania got to
their departure ports. I got many interesting replies.

I would like to ask the same question about Jews leaving the
Litvak areas of the Russian Empire (Lithuania and Belarus, in
particular). The port cities >from which the emigrants departed
for the US, e.g., Hamburg, were distant >from the towns of Eastern
Europe. Were there trains? Did they walk? Were there established
networks? Movements unique to those areas? Any insights would be
appreciated.

Thank you.
