Re: Help with a Hungarian first name #general

Farkas (translation: wolf) is not a nickname for Isaac. However,
since it was common for Hungarian Jews to give their children totally
unrelated secular and Jewish names, there is no reason why the same
person couldn't be called Farkas, but have Yitzhak/Izsak/Isaac as
their Hebrew name.

My grandmother told me of a Hungarian relative whose first name was Farkas.
I found records of an Isaak who seems like he could be Farkas. Can anyone
tell me about the name Farkas? Could it be a nickname for Isaak?
