1914 Warsaw Telephone Directory #general

Peter Lebensold

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I recently stumbled
upon a resource I had not earlier known about: A Warsaw telephone
directory >from 1914 - far earlier than anything on Logan Kleinwacks'
excellent Genealogy Indexer website (despite its wide range of
searchable directories - at http://genealogyindexer.org/ [1] ).

The reference appears on the website of Israeli genealogical researcher
Yoram Mayorek - who has somehow obtained a physical copy of this early
"database". Here's his mention of it:
http://www.research.co.il/1914.html [2] . The directory, according to
Yoram, includes about 25,000 entries - about 65%-70% of them apparently

While the directory is not viewable online - and has not been OCR'd - on
his website Yoram is offering to check names for anyone who asks. He
sent me a scan of the names I'd told him I was interested in, and the
listings include not only the name (often including full first name),
phone number and address, but also a description of the business at that

Happy hunting!
