I have just joined this emailing list as I am about to go to Lviv, Ukraine
for a conference on renowned legal scholar Raphael Lemkin who coined the
term genocide. We share the surname but our family connection has never
been known. I'll be arriving in Belarus >from Oct 28th for 10 days before
My great grandfather's UK naturalisation papers are being opened on
Monday in the Public Archives but I believe he was born somewhere near
Vitepsk. I would love to have feedback >from anyone who has been to Jewish
Heritage sites in Belarus particularly Slonim or others in Vitepsk region.
How best to get there? Any stories about Lemkin family members in Latvia from
where my great grandfather, Samuel, departed with his wife Sophie Samuels,
to start a new life in England. My grandfather whom I knew was born in
England in 1894.
