OCJGS (CA) Meeting Sunday 6/28 #general

Joel Weintraub

The Orange County Jewish Genealogical Society (OCJGS CA) invites you to
start (or augment) your own genealogy journey with a workshop on
"Introduction to Jewish Genealogy" on Sunday June 28th >from 1:30 to 3:30 at
Temple Bat Yahm, 1011 Camelback, Newport Beach, CA. A common thread during
the workshop will be that Jewish Genealogists not only study the past, but
they honor and preserve the past. The "myths" of Jewish Genealogy (no
records, name changed at Ellis Island) will be discounted. A case study of
how documents can provide insight into our ancestors in Eastern Europe will
be presented. An outline of the talk and important websites can be seen at:

Our speaker is Dr. Joel Weintraub. For over a decade, Joel has created
search tools for the U.S. and New York City censuses that are freely
available on the Steve Morse "One-Step" website. He has given
presentations on census, immigration and naturalization, biographical, and
Jewish genealogy topics to genealogy, natural history and university groups
and has published articles on biography, census research, NYC geography, and
the 72 year census privacy rule. His hobbies include birding, collecting
census & NYC memorabilia (some used in the talk) and making interesting
PowerPoint presentations.
