(US NYC) Greene Street Lower East Side Website Showing Changes Over Time #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The Greene Street (lower east side) website in New York City shows how one
street has changed over time-several hundred years. "A Long History of a
Short Block" is a study of 486 feet of present-day Greene Street between
Houston and Prince Streets in Manhattan, New York. As many of us have lower
east side "roots" this may be of interest.

In addition to maps, it has photos of then and now of the street, the
garment industry, immigration and labor and more. When looking at one of the
maps do click on the "balloon or star" for more information. To move along
in the category use the slider on the bottom of your screen. To view this
go to: http://www.greenestreet.nyc/home.

The project was researched, written and developed by the NYU Development
Research Institute.

Thank you to David Oseas for sharing this interesting website.
