Can we assume that you have already searched for FRIEDMANN >from Galgocz in the
JewishGen Hungary database? Have you also searched the Hlohovec, Slovakia, burial
records in the JOWBR database? What other sources have you consulted? Because of
its location, I suspect that there was Jewish migration to Galgocz >from Moravia in
the late 18th and 19th centuries. Your FRIEDMANN family may, therefore, be in
records in Czech archives. Contact the Austria-Czech SIG for information.
I also suggest that you research the history of the Jewish community in Galgocz,
which dates back to the 16th century. Raphael Patai mentions Mordecai Deutsch (d.
1773) who became rabbi of Galgocz in 1740 after serving in Bohemia. He also
mentions Rabbi Judah Loeb OPPENHEIMER who died in Galgocz in 1803 and also refers
to a blood libel case >from 1539, which he says is the first case of that type on
It's much easier provide assistance if you can tell us what you know and what you
are looking for.
