<If a Jewish man (Congress Poland) who had served in the Russian army married,
would it indicate on his marriage record that he was a soldier? >
I do not know about Congress Poland, but in Ukraine, the answer is affirmative.
Ukraine marriage records list the registration of the groom. Military service
would be that registration. I have seen people listed as both active and
retired military, and by rank.
Military service often provided a veteran with certain privileges, like the
ability to live legally outside the Pale of Settlement.
