Thank you to all who responded that Danzig existed well before 1919. I should have mentioned that the individual in question filled out her SS#5 in 1953, the same year she applied for U.S. citizenship. I assume she left Europe directly after WWII and this may have influenced her decision to list her birthplace as Danzig - assuming she was actually born elsewhere in Poland (most likely Warsaw).
