Temple Beth Zion's Aaron and Bertha Broder Center for Jewish
Education, 700 Sweet Home Road, Amherst, NY, 14226 on Sunday, April
17th at 2:00 PM. His presentation will be "Henry's Escape >from Europe
in 1940."

Following the German invasion of Austria and the severe restrictions
that were placed on Jews, the Wellisch's were unable to leave Vienna.
Threatened with deportation, the family joined one of the "illegal"
transports to Palestine. Upon arrival, the British would not allow the
passengers to enter Palestine. Henry was then interned on the island
nation of Mauritius, west of Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean.

Subsequently, despite the danger, Henry joined the British forces in
the Jewish Brigade and returned to Europe to assist trapped Jews to
flee the Nazis. After the War, he fought with the Israeli Army in the
War of Independence.

Henry is a member and a past president of the Jewish Genealogical
Society of (Toronto) Canada and traced his family back into the middle
of the 18th century. He has published numerous articles on Jewish
genealogical research, lectured on various genealogical and historical
subjects, and contributed to several websites.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Refreshments
provided.
