Weekly Yizkor book excerpt on JewishGen Facebook page #general
BDrake@...
This week's excerpt is >from the Yizkor book of Ostrow Mazowiecka a town in Poland,
53 miles northeast of Warsaw, that had about 6,000 Jews in 1897. The chapter is titled "Nechemia Gravedigger" and it has a special kind of literary lyricism, which is not surprising given that the author was Israel Emiot (http://bit.ly/29Q03gj), a well-known poet. Emiot writes movingly of Nechemia's 30 years service as the town's gravedigger, and the emotions and sorrows that came along with it.
