Jewish Genealogical Society (NY) Meeting
Sunday October 30 at 2 PM
at the Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th St. New York

Our program: "Long Island's Jewish History"
Our speaker: Rhoda Salowe Miller, Ed.D, Certified Genealogist

The recent publication of "Jewish Community of Long Island," the story of
Long Island's Jewish heritage, has brought earlier histories of Long Island's
Jewry into a new perspective through a photographic journey.

Jewish life on Long Island reflects the transition >from an agricultural region
to the suburban dream. The research reflects the roles of peddlers, local
businesses, synagogues, social organizations, individuals and families. Social
history is an important part of genealogical research and much of this book was
researched and written >from a genealogical perspective. "Jewish Community of
Long Island" shows how genealogical research can augment historical data to
create a richer narrative. With JGSLI, Rhoda is co-author of this new book.

Rhoda Miller is a Past President of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island
(JGSLI), and continues her leadership as a board member. She has presented at
many conferences and other venues. Under Litvak SIG, Rhoda volunteers as
Co-coordinator of the Svencionys District Research Group, administers a
Svencionys DNA group, and is webmaster of the JewishGen Kehilalinks Orlya,
Belarus website. At Dowling College, Rhoda taught genealogy and Holocaust
courses.

A book signing will follow Rhoda's talk.

Free for members; guests welcome, $5 at the door.
