USHMM Website Access #general

For more than 20 years, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM)
has been developing a massive names database for Holocaust victims and
survivors, Jews and non-Jews. As of now, this database, the Holocaust
Survivors and Victims Database (HSV) has 6,769,691 entries.

This does not mean that this number of individuals have been identified,
since an individual's name will appear each time it is indexed >from a
document, for example, if he/she was sent to several concentration camps.
About half of these name entries may be accessed on the web by going to
https://www.ushmm.org/online/hsv/person_advance_search.php.
(Unfortunately, the remaining names cannot be so accessed due to
restrictions on web access imposed by the organizations which provided the
data, though all names may be accessed by visitors to the Museum)

A new service, which is gradually being introduced, facilitates inquirers
seeking to obtain copies of the document/s where a name appears. Where a
listing, (use Sofi Albert Cohen born 1911 in Bukarest as an example) says
"Media," you may request a copy of the document as instructed in the record.
Please include the personal ID number which appears with each such listing.

This service is designed so that the requestor can obtain copies of
documents quickly, Please be patient if "Media" does not appear with every
name of interest, though this service will continually be expanded. Do not
ask research questions through this link, as this is for copy requests only.
