New Jersey Death Records: Seeking to Locate City or County of Death #general

Eric Ellman

The New Jersey Dep't of Health requires that in order to obtain a New Jersey
death "certification" (an informational copy of a vital record not valid for
legal purposes) for genealogical purposes, as opposed to a "certified" copy,
one must include, among other things, the city or county of death. I am open
to suggestions as to how to narrow down the city or county of death, as I do
not know the identity of these places.

I am seeking death certificates for the six people buried in King Solomon
Cemetery in Clifton. Clifton is in Passaic County, but the death could have
occurred in that or other surrounding counties. It is possible that the
deaths could have occurred in New York, but that does not seem likely.

Sticking with my New Jersey as the state of death theory, I am short on clues
to locate the city or county of death. There is no know burial society that
I could tell >from a visit to the King Solomon Cemetery that might otherwise
offer clues to the place of death, like a shul.

Obits might be a good source for a city or county of death, but the two that
I found were not illuminating. Abraham STOCK's NYT obit >from 1984 merely noted
that his funeral was in Manhattan. Herman STOCK's NYT obit noted that the
funeral in The Bronx. I did not see any obits in the NYT for the other STOCK
family for whom I seek death certificates. I did not see any obits online for
New Jersey earlier than the 2000s.

Any help would be most welcome to better narrow the cities or counties of
death to obtain death certificates for the STOCK family members noted below:

Mathilde Smith, 1907 - Jan. 12, 1936
Abraham Stock, 1892 - April 10, 1984
Gertrude Stock, 1896 - July 3, 1995
Herman Stock, 1868 - March 6, 1950
Jennie Stock, 1875 - Aug. 3, 1952
Leo Stock, 1901 - Jan. 11, 1982
