Dear Sir/Madam,
My great grandfather, Gustav LINDENBERG, who was a German Jew, was wounded
in action at the Battle of Magersfontein on 11th December 1899 and died from
his wounds the following day on 12th December 1899 at the age of 41 years.
He was a member of the Bloemhof Kommando and fought in the Swedish
Contingent of the Scandinavian Corps on the side of the Boers.
He was born in Hannover in Germany and married a Josephine Kunkel in
Nuremberg Bavaria in Germany, and emigrated to South Africa and settled in
Klerksdorp. I believe he also served in the Prussian Army prior to
emigrating to South Africa.
The only information that I have on Gustav Lindenberg is a South African
Death Notice which I obtained >from the local governmental archives in
Pretoria.
I would inter alia very much like to acquire his Prussian military service
record as well as information on his entry into South Africa.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could assist me in some way with
my research.
Regards,
Guy Beckett
