Oppinheim from Brest-LItovsk and Kiev #general

Roberta Berman

My gr-grandfather, Yitzhak Oppenheim was born in Brest-Litovsk, probably about
1820. He was “chosen” by the czar to serve in the army. About 1860 he was
discharged >from the army in Kiev where he married and had two sons. I do not know
the names of his parents or if he had any siblings. His sons were Moses David and
Menchem and I’m guessing that one of them was named for Yitzhak’s father.

I searched every database on Jewishgen with no luck. A researcher searched at the
National Historical Archives for Belarus in Grodno and didn’t find any Oppenheims
in Brest-Litovsk.

Some of my family members and I tested at FTDNA and we had some matches >from others
with roots in Brest-Litovsk. However none of them had Oppenheim as a surname and
we have not been able to connect our families.

I would appreciate any suggestions for more research. Are vital records for the
1860s >from Kiev available?

All the best,
Roberta Berman
