language spoken and border crossings #bessarabia

Anne and Yefim

my gfather was born in Lipcani. He couldn't speak Russian; his wife, who he met in London, came
from Poltava in the Ukraine and couldn't speak Romanian. they conversed in either Yiddish or English.
Also gfather often told me that he and his father travelled into the forests to buy furs but his son told
me that gfather and his brothers were horse thieves crossing the borders into Romania and Russia to
buy and sell horses. Have you any comments on that aspect of border crossings Yefim.
