*All* 19th Century Records For Wieruszow to be indexed; you have a unique
opportunity to help

Dear Fellow JRI-ers,

Many of us researching our ancestors >from Poland have found valuable
information in the microfilms of the LDS Family History Centers. For the last
several years, this effort has gained momentum because more than 800,000 of
the records in the LDS collection have been indexed and are available on the
Internet through the searchable database of Jewish Records Indexing- Poland
(http://www.jewishgen/JRI-PL). The indexes themselves provide valuable
genealogical data and enable one to zero in on specific documents for further
research.

Until now it has been virtually impossible to research one's family >from
Wieruszow; LDS films of Jewish records >from this town are NON-EXISTENT!
Wieruszow is located about halfway between Kalisz and Czestochowa; it is
about 15 miles west of Wielun and Zloczew and 30 miles west of Dzialoszyn.
Towns neighboring Wieruszow approximately 30 miles to the northeast are
Zdunska Wola, Sieradz, Lask and Warta. Perhaps your ancestors >from this
region once lived in Wieruszow without your knowing it!

Indexes to *all* 19th century Wieruszow Jewish records housed in the Lodz
Archives are now in the process of development and addition to the JRI-Poland
database under a groundbreaking agreement between JRI-Poland and the Polish
State Archives (PSA). For information about the PSA project see:
http://www.jewishgen.org/JRI-PL/psa/psastat.htm

The 3,500 Wieruszow birth, marriage and death records span the years >from
1826 through the 1870's, and perhaps beyond. We will not know the full extent
of the years until indexing is completed by the JRI-Poland team in Poland.

This means that when indexing is complete for Wieruszow, this new material
will finally allow you to expand your research into a time period or
geographical area that has been elusive and beyond your reach. Once these
indexes are completed, you may simply print out an order form >from the Jewish
Records Indexing-Poland web site and order the records >from the Polish State
Archives.

The budget for indexing the Wieruszow records is $667.04. As you can see, we
have a long way to go to reach our goal and we need everyone's help to make
it happen! Whatever you can contribute will be very much appreciated and will
help bring us closer to our goal.

All individuals (or families) who are able to contribute $50 or more to this
effort will receive the complete database as an Excel file for your personal
research when the translation and transcription is completed.

Not only will this enable you to see the information well in advance of its
general availability in the JRI-Poland Searchable Database, it will enable
you to look at all the records >from Wieruszow at once, and perhaps find a
family name whose connection you had forgotten, or to work with the data (for
example, sorting by first name) to search for a great-grandmother's elusive
maiden name.

I have agreed to take on the special fund raising responsibility for JRI -
Poland with respect to this specific project - as the city of Wieruszow Town
