I would suggest another potential source of info : Jewish Historical
Institute in Warsaw. They have a genealogy section. Here are links in English: Genealogy service: http://www.jhi.pl/en/genealogy/contact About the Institute: http://www.jhi.pl/en/institute Established in 1947 they may have the richest collection of data about the Jews of Poland. I could not find any official records of my grandparents, not even the birth record of my mother , born in Warsaw in 1917, because the books were destroyed during the war. However I found three traces of my elusive grandfather Berek ROTENSZTEJN 1) http://genealogyindexer.org/ The 1908 and 1909 Warsaw Address and Business Directories contain in principle a full list of Warsaw residents, not only those who had a phone number ( contrary to the directories for later years). on the same wonderful website, I also found my grandfather in the member list of Warsaw Jewish Commercial Employees' Mutual Aid Association Report (all years >from 1897 until 1930). 2) http://warszawa.getto.pl/ also a wonderful database. Search by name under "people" My grandfather is listed in the "gaz list" ( ironically, this is not not a list of people who were gassed in the death camp of Treblinka, as my grandfather most likely was, but a list of people who had to pay a gaz bill, as of 1942... ) 3) The Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names http://db.yadvashem.org/names/search.html?language=en A man who escaped the ghetto and later emigrated to Israel wrote pages of testimony for everyone he could remember. It turned out he lived in the same building as my grand-parents. Thanks to help of israelian genealogists, I was able to find his daughter! Best wishes Nicole Berline, Paris.
