Identification of Great-Grandmother's Birthplace (ViewMate 71015) #poland
Paul A. Auerbach
I have posted an excerpt >from the 1930 U.S. federal census purportedly
showing the birthplace of my great-grandmother, Esther Aronson. It is on ViewMate at the following address: http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM71015 The name of the town in the census appears to be "Padavola, Poland." I couldn't find any matches in the JewishGen Communities Database. When I searched the JewishGen Gazetteer, I found four Polish towns, Podbale, Podwale (two towns with that name) and Podwole, all of which are within 150 miles of Warsaw. None of these towns appears to have a significant Jewish population, and I didn't see a single entry for any of those towns in JewishGen's Family Finder. Any suggestions on how I might narrow down the possibilities? My great-grandmother was never naturalized and I haven't been able to find a passenger record for her, so this is all I've got. Thanks very much for your help.
