Hirsch was a communist sympathiser hence his return. In Russia he wrote =
for the official Jewish publications such as "Sovietishe Heimland". In =
the archive in Oxford there is some evidence that he was under suspicion =
by the KGB but the tone of his regular correspondence wiyh my mother up =
to his death in 1978 seemed happy enough. Unfortunately this =
correspondence was not kept.
When his daughter and grandson went to Israel they packed all his =
manuscripts and photographs in one suitcase which was stolen in transit =
in Romania.

the broken English for "Waker"?
