In researching the family name SVESHNIKOV into which my Great Aunt SONYA
TSIPIN or ZIPIN married around the turn of the 19th century in
ST PETERSBURG, I contacted several SVESHNIKOVS in various locations
here and in Eastern European countries. One sent me a list >from the
Moscow and St. Petersburg telephone directories (in Cyrillic)
that indicated many dozens of SVESHNIKOVS. Many of these are surely
non-Jewish although the one my aunt married was certainly Jewish.
I also learned there is a famous Sveshnikov/Sicilian chess opening.
I am searching for SVESHNIKOVS , AND BURTINS , METRIKINS AND
BESPROZVANNYA/ BESPROSVANNI, and CANTONIST history in general.
