Circa 1910, Ben Zion Black, a recently arrived Jewish Lithuanian
immigrant sign painter, was hired by Congregation Chai Adam in
Burlington, Vermont, to paint a two story synagogue mural. The story
behind this mural and the current drive to salvage and preserve
this rare example of Jewish religious folk art can be seen on pages
