Shtetl Love Song #lithuania

Fred Millner <flmillner@...>

I have just finished reading Shtetl Love Song, by Grigory Kanovich. I
agree 100% with Olga Zabludoff's raving review of November 18, posted
on the LitvakSig Digest of that day. The book flies by.

I actually wrote a note of appreciation and sent it to
info@gkanovich.com, which was the only e-mail address I could find.
The next day I received a phone call >from Toronto, which I picked up
even though I assumed it was probably spam. It turned out to be from
Dmitry Kanovich, Grigory's son, who wanted to thank me. He also asked
that I publicize the book if I liked it so much. LitvakSig is the
most efficient way to do this, but I can't improve on Ms. Zabludoff; I
can only reinforce it. (No, I have no commercial interest in the
book, either.)

My Milner ancestors were registered in Jonava by the Russian
authorities, but seem to have moved out by about 1870, to Troki. I
still consider it the family home, and made sure I visited it in 2013,
so I have a special interest in the town.
