New: American and Canadian rabbis in collection at YIVO #rabbinic
Seflaum@...
Dear Fellow Rav-SIG Members:
We recently discovered the existence of the Samuel Ephraim Tiktin Collection in the Archives of the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York. The collection, dating >from circa 1930 to 1949, includes several hundred biographies of rabbis compiled by Tiktin for a "Universal Rabbinical Biographical Encyclopedia," which was never published. Biographies include rabbis >from the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Hungary, Palestine, Poland, and the Middle East. The list of 205 American and Canadian rabbis now online was compiled by a professor of Jewish history who visited the YIVO Archives several years ago and contributed the list after reviewing the collection. We are indebted to Rav-SIG member Stephen Falk, who visited YIVO and obtained the list, and to Fruma Mohrer, Acting Chief Archivist at YIVO, for granting kind permission to reproduce it and providing resource information. The list may be accessed >from the Rav-SIG home page in the "What's New" section: http://www.jewishgen.org/Rabbinic/ or directly at: http://www.jewishgen.org/Rabbinic/databases/tiktin.htm Regards, Shirley Rotbein Flaum, Coordinator Rabbinic Genealogy Special Interest Group (Rav-SIG) http://www.jewishgen.org/Rabbinic Houston, Texas maillto:seflaum@aol.com
