Connection between ZACKHEIM and descendants of R'Chaim of Volozhin? #rabbinic

Yonatan Ben-Ari

In our family research we are pretty "closed" on the fact that the
Rabbi Mordechai of Pinsk during the mid 19th cent. mentioned in my
gguncle's diary as his mother's relative was R' Mordechai ZACKHEIM .
As I posted before, though we don't know what his mother (Sarah
Hinde)'s maiden name was we do believe she was a direct descendant of
R' Chaim of Volozhin (or at least connected to his family somehow).

Would anybody have any information if and how the ZACKHEIM and the
Volozhin families are connected. I know that Mordechai studied at the
Volozhin Yeshiva.

My great great grandmother, Sarah Hinde was married to Shlomo KANTOR
of Karlin/Pinsk (not Chassidic). Shlomo, besides owning a grocery
store, was the Chazan/Kantor of the Synagogue of Karlin. It could very
well be that his family name came >from his profession (and not
necessarily >from a previous ancestor).

I should mention that my gguncle (mentioned above) was well known
Israeli pioneer Chaim Dov KANTOR of Zichron Yacov and moshava Shfeya
in Eretz Yisrael (Palestine).
