I have been researching my family tree for nearly 40 years. This line
has defeated me!
I am looking for information about Lisa SILVERMAN or SILBERMAN, (1881-
1958) who came >from Galatz in Romania. She was my Great Great
Grandmother. I know her father was called Solomon, and she had 2
sisters, Shendel (also known as Sonia) and Janeta ( also known as
Antoinette). I do not know her mother's name.
Lisa said she left Romania in 1900 and she arrived here in 1901,
travelling with a dance troupe. I found her on the 1901 census. One of
the sisters visited the family in London, after the First World War,
where Lisa had married and settled with her husband and children.
(Woolf POTTESMAN 1880-1948 and Solomon, Louis and Rose)
After the Second World War, Lisa received a letter >from a man in
Israel, who gave his name Zalman WEISS, married to Fanny with a
daughter Marie, who said he was Lisa's half brother, through their
mother. He said one of the other sisters had married a man from
Bessarabia and left Galatz, and he assumed she was dead. I tried in the
past to trace Zalman WEISS unsuccesfully.
I have had no luck at all with this part of my tree, and would welcome
any advice! In the past I paid a researcher in Romania, but got
absolutely nothing back
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
