ViewMate, the JewishGen project that helps researchers understand
genealogy-related documents, photographs and artifacts, received the
2012 Award for Outstanding Program or Project announced at the 31st
Annual International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies
(IAJGS) International Conference on Jewish Genealogy held in Paris,
Conceived and initiated by Bernard Israelite Kouchel, this innovative
and widely-used tool gives researchers the opportunity to share images
with peers who volunteer to provide translations and explanations. An
integral part of JewishGen, this interactive project connects the
international genealogical community allowing those with questions to
benefit >from the expertise and experience of those who answer them.
You can browse and search the entire ViewMate collection. Currently
posted images can be viewed on the Image Gallery page and the Archives
can be searched for past images. There you will find a time capsule of
over 23,000 historic images relating to the Jewish experience. More
images are added each week.
The ViewMate Team includes programmers, coordinators, and countless
amazing helpful people >from across the globe who assist others freely.
The gratitude of the recipients of volunteer services is overwhelming.
Many thanks to the International Association of Jewish Genealogical
Societies, their awards committee, and the Jewish Genealogical Society
of Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the nomination.
