You may or may not be aware, during IAJGS conference in Seattle in August
2016, the JewishGen Yizkor Book Project received the Outstanding Project
Award! This was more than wonderful news and a wide recognition of our
combined achievements in the YB Project. As such, I would like all of you
who have been involved in the Yizkor Book Project in some way or another to
now give yourself a very hearty pat on the back - you certainly do deserve
it and your efforts are greatly appreciated!

So as not to disappoint and endeavor to maintain our project in its
"outstanding" status, during August, we continued to add on and update the
translations available online. There are a number of books that are just a
hairsbreadth distance >from being fully translated and online and do hope to
be able to inform you about the completed projects in my next report, in
perfect timing for Rosh Hashana (New Year).

At the same time, other aspects of the Yizkor Book Project continue to make
headway and pleased to let you know that two books have recently been
published by the "never-standing-still" Yizkor Books in Print Project. The
books are:

- "Remembering Dvinsk" which covers the Jewish community of Daugavpils,
Latvia.
- "Trilogy of Three Romanian Jewish Communities: Bacau, Iasi and Podu
Iloaiei" which is due to be made available within the nearest future.

As always, I salute Joel Alpert and his team who have made nearly 50 books
available since the instigation of this project in April 2011 - an amazing
achievement by any standards.

Still, as I regularly point out to reach a point where you have a fully
translated Yizkor book in hand does require time, patience and, in
particular, quite substantial financial support. Our recommendation to raise
money and pay for the professional translation of a Yizkor book is to set up
a JewishGen Translations Fund into which people interested in seeing their
community book translated, can donate towards this lofty goal. It should be
noted that donations to these funds are tax-exempt for US citizens - a
further important consideration. Just this past month, a number of such
funds have been set up and translation begun and others are presently in the
process of being setup and will join our 70 odd Translations Funds. So if
you are interested in seeing a particular book translated via a Translations
Fund, please contact me and I will explain how it is possible to go forward
with such a project.
