Looking for THAL's #southafrica

bgephart@...

I have recently discovered that a relative of mine - Jeshaie THAL - may
have emigrated to "Africa" >from Latvia. He was born in
Sassmacken/Valdemarpils in 1880, and was the son of Shimon Thal and
Doris Friedman. This information was found in a family list by the
Latvian State Archives. Unfortunately, that is all the information I
have. I don't even know when he may have emigrated, but am guessing
early 20th-century. Is there any chance that anyone has heard of a THAL
family in Southern Africa?

I do know of two other Thal families, that of Maurice Thal in Zimbabwe,
and that of Norman Thal, possibly in Port Elizabeth, that are not
related to mine.

I did notice a mention of a "J. Thal" in the article about the De Aar
Hebrew Conregation. Does anyone know any more about him? There is also
mention of a Thal in Dennis Kahn's article about Cradock. If anyone has
any other information about these people or any other THAL's, please let
me know. It's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack, but it's
worth a try!

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Betsy Thal Gephart
