I have recently seen a photograph of President JH
Brand, taken in 1883, standing in front of a hotel in
Rouxville, in the (Orange)Free State. The Hotel, a
single storey structure, is named "The Rouxville
Hotel", and on its side wall, is the wording "HOTEL.
BY E. NATHAN". Who was this E. NATHAN? Was he related
to the NATHAN family of Graaf-Reinet?
