My father's father Yacob Lieb Gomberg was born in England while his parents
were visiting >from Russia in late 1890's. This meant he had British
citizenship. My father Heiem Gomberg was born in Russia with British
citizenship and had his birth registered at the British Consulate in
Pervomaysk in 1923. In 1924 the family Yacob, his wife Dina (nee Gzebmacher)
and son Heiem left Russia and settled in London. My grandmother's family
Gzebmacher remained in Kovel. While I have some information about her side
of the family, I know nothing about my grandfather Gomberg's side of the
family. I do have his student union card dated 1918 for the Imperial
(crossed out) University in Estonia where his name in Russian script sounds
like Heiemovitch, so presumably my father's father's father was called Heiem
too.
