The word "SHIL" is Yiddish for synagogue or center of Jewish learning

I'd like to add another dimension to the origin mystery, and that is the
problem those of us with Jewish parents, or one Jewish parent, who married
a non-Jew and have, for whatever reason, little or no knowledge of Jewish
tradition or history to draw on. If it weren't for this this and other
lists, I'd never have heard of the word "shtetl", but it is possible that
my grandfather's family came >from one named "Shil". This list has been
helpful,
but there's always a small sense of not fitting in or not belonging that
accompanies my search for these lost ancestors. I'd say be patient with us
help us put together the missing pieces.
