Another thought for you all who have so generously assited me in my search.
Why would an obviously Russian surname such as GRECHEVSKY be changed to a
Germanic surname GREMM? The two names are not anything alike. Why not an
Anglicized version such as Green? Was it common to just pick a name or was
the steward on the ship involved in the choice of names? My grandmother
LEWIN kept LEWIN, was not changed >from her name in Riga. Thoughts anyone.
