I've heard of the name Nuta or Nutta, but only for a male (often winds up
as something like Nathan).

Any thoughts on what this female Yiddish/Hebrew name could be, or what it
might have become in English?

It might well be the same as my grandmother's name, Nessie (or Nessa)
-- which was changed to Genessa in Russian and Nettie in English. I
don't have the Hebrew/Yiddish spelling available at the moment.
