I have just found out that my husband's ggm's maiden name was
SOSIK. She must have been born in the general area of Southern
Ukraine.

Can anyone give me information as to the origin of the name and
its geographical appearance.

States as the foreign country. Selecting Ukraine as the European country
gives only one match, probably because the Ukraine database is still very
small. But if you select the nearby Belarus, Poland, or Galicia as the
European country, you will see many possibilities for the original name.
