I've been trying to track down my ancestors home town. I'd always heard just
'Kiev', but have finally traced a relative who confidently stated
(something like) "Nyzgi Novarod". This came >from her father, who was born
there, in 1892, but came to London when he was 2 years old.
Great, I thought - got it! Except that I can find no such town, or anything
similar to it, in Ukraine at all.
I did find a "Nizhniy Novgorod, Nizhegorodskaya, Russia", which is about as
far east of Moscow as Kiev is West. And apart >from this not being near
Kiev, I am told that it is 'very unlikely' my ancestors came >from there.
So, does anyone have any ideas of what/where this town might be?
BTW - family name was POKRASSE.
