Re: City of my maternal Grandfathers birth #ukraine

If you go to JewishGen's homepage and search for the town Antonowka
you'll find a listing for a town in Ukraine, near Rovne (now Rivne).
But there are other towns with this name as well, especially if you
spell it as Antonovka or (Ukrainian) Antonivka. For example, there is
also one near Uman. lists 5 or 6 depending on the
spelling. Some of them are reasonably close to Stavishche.

A great place to find all of these is
geonames4.asp. It'll give you latitude and longitude and the current
name of the region (oblast) in Ukraine where each of these towns is
found. You can then compare these to Stavishche, and that might take
you further in your search.

Dear Geners,
My Grandfather was raised in the city of Stavishche and I
incorrectly assumed that that was the city of his birth. While
viewing his Naturalization Records, I found that he was born in
a City called Antonowka, Russia. I have found no mention of this
city in a world atlas, Map of Russia 1914,and an Internet search.
Does anyone know this name or have any information on this city.
I am assuming that it is in Russia or Ukraine. He was born in 1885
as a reference date.

Thank you sincerely,
