I have, found out that the original name is SOUCHOT and it has a french root in the cognac area of france dating back to 1600 I would be interested to find out how come the name bacame russian, the only thing I do know is that my grandmother and perhaps my grandfather came form crimea before they settled in Yekaterinaslav. I also think that grapes are grown in Crimea. Whilst in the cognac region on a trip I found out that the trunk of a vine is called a SOUCHOT!!!. Any clarificaiton on the subjct would be gratefully appreciated
