Sechzer and Ackerman #ukraine

I am searching for family information regarding the names Sechzer and Ackerman
I think the Sechzer family was >from Kapigorod, near Odessa. Could be Zechtser or Zechzer. Looking for family or history of Selig (Zelig) Sechzer. He emigrated to America in the early 1900s.

I think the Ackerman family was >from Ajanovitz or Arzanovitz (??) also near Odessa. I am especially looking for family related to Hinda Ackerman. Ackerman was her family name. I do not know what her married name was. She was assumed to have died in the Holocaust / World War II but we are wondering if any of her family survived. She had 4 sisters who went to America at the turn of the last century, one of whom was my grandmother, Faina or Faigie, or Fanny as she was called in America.

Does anyone know how I can begin this search - I suppose first I need to find and identify the towns, then find archives...Any advice?

Moderator's Note: If you are just starting out you might want to read the JewishGen FAQ's at
Do your research on your family that came to the U.S., look for naturalization papers, census records, etc. These will provide clues on where the family came from.
