Ukraine SIG data acquisitions - update #ukraine

Janette Silverman

I am very impressed and grateful. Over the last several weeks, I have
written a few messages about the opportunity to receive 13,000 images of
census and vital records documents >from the Zhitomir and Kiev archives.
I over estimated the total we needed, and it turns out that to acquire
all of these images we only need $2,900. We ave already received $2,300
in donations. To donate and help us reach the goal of $2,900 (only $600
more) please choose the "Donate" button on the Ukraine SIG page, then
"donate" then Digital Documents Acquistion and Transcription Project. If
by some chance we get more in donations than the $2,900 needed to
acquire all of these documents (13,336 images) then we will put the
additional donations towards transcription/translation. For that second
part, if we have to pay translators, it will cost at least $50,000 - my
hope is that we will be able to use a combination of volunteers and

I would love, at the Ukraine SIG meetings at the upcoming IAJGS
conference, on Tuesday, 9 August to be able to show you some of the
documents we have gotten. In order to do so, we have to be able to pay
for the material!

Thank you for your generosity and willingness to step up to the plate.
We have 3,800 readers - if you are one of the many who has not made a
contribution to this project yet, please consider it. To read the
descriptions of the material, please look at your Ukraine SIG discussion
group messages over the last few weeks. Right now, please do not email
me and ask me for more information - I will not be able to answer your
questions until after the conference
