While I agree with the replies I've seen to the list about the Shapira (and variations) surname, your case appears a bit different based on what you wrote. The Shapira line described were not Kohanim which it appears yours was. I can't find the reference at the moment, but some individuals who married into the Shapira family adopted the surname due to its illustrious nature. One such example are the Kahana-Shapira (and variations) who were Kohanim, some of whom were also noted rabbis.

Are there any SHAPIRO experts out there? Where did the last name start? My branch started in Stolbsty, Belarus and in the Minsk area,,,last in Europe in Lubny, Ukraine. They were also known as Kahn-Shapiro or in the UK as Cohen. The wife came >from Timikovitz as Moskovitz. Date circa 1800.
Since the great grandfather died in Lubny,,Benjamin's father was Aron and mother Nushke.
Any help will be appreciated..Respond privately unless it helps others..
